A couples session in the park

They brought one bicycle between the two of them — the way they've done everything for years.
The session
Maria & Vlad
Maria and Vlad have been married a long time — long enough to finish each other's sentences and then argue about who started them. They turned up with a bicycle, a pale blue one with a basket, because Vlad said it was how they used to get everywhere back when they had nothing, and Maria rolled her eyes and climbed onto the crossbar anyway.
We met at the old garden in Niagara at the far end of the afternoon, when the light comes sideways through the big trees and turns the whole place the colour of weak tea. I barely had to direct them. I'd point at a tree and by the time they reached it they'd forgotten the camera — she'd be telling him something, he'd be laughing at it, and I'd just keep pressing the shutter.
The frame Maria printed is the one where she's tucked under his chin and neither of them is looking at me. You can't see the bicycle. You can't see the park. You can only see two people who decided a long time ago and never once took it back — which, honestly, was the whole session. Everything else was just the two of them showing me how.
I'd point at a tree, and by the time they reached it they'd forgotten I was holding a camera.
An old garden in Niagara
A heritage park about an hour down the QEW — mature trees, gravel paths, and long open lawns that hold the light late. Best on a weekday evening in late spring or early autumn, when it's quiet and the sun sits low through the branches. Street parking, no permit needed for a small session; the one honest drawback is that it draws a crowd at golden hour, so we start early.
