Who this is for

Most couples arrive at a shoot slightly braced for it. Somebody has decided in advance that they're "not photogenic," and somebody else is worried about where to put their hands.

Ten minutes in, that's usually gone — because I'm not going to ask you to stand facing the camera and look natural, which is an impossible thing to ask of anyone. I'll give you something to do. Walk there. Tell them the thing you were laughing about in the car. Stand close and stop performing.

What comes out of that looks like you. Which is the whole point, whether it's for an engagement, an anniversary, or no reason at all.

Recent work

I'll never ask you to face the camera and look natural. I'll give you something to do instead.

Ten minutes in, the nerves are gone.

06 Full print release

They're your photographs. Print them anywhere.

How it works

From hello to gallery.

1

Say hello

Tell me a bit about the two of you and what the photos are for. I'll reply within two days.

2

We plan it together

We pick somewhere that suits you — woods, water, city, or the flat you actually live in — and a start time built around the light. I'll help with what to wear.

3

The session

An hour, mostly moving. Prompts rather than poses. If you're both awkward at the start, that's completely normal and it doesn't last.

4

Your gallery

Two to three weeks later, a private gallery to download, print and share.

For engagements

Planning a wedding? Do this early.

Best a season or two before the day

If you're planning a wedding, this is worth doing early. You get photographs for the save-the-dates and the website, and — more usefully — an hour of being photographed together before the day when it really counts, so it isn't the first time.

Tell me your date when you write, and we'll fit it in before the day.

Questions

We're not photogenic.
Nobody is, standing still, being told to look natural. That's a directing problem, not a face problem. Give me ten minutes.
What should we wear?
Coordinate rather than match. Two or three soft colours between you, good fabric, nothing with a logo. Something with movement for one of you — a long skirt or coat — always helps. We'll go through it beforehand.
Where should we do it?
Depends what you want it to feel like. Woods and fields for something soft and warm; downtown Kitchener or Galt for something with more edge. I'll suggest a few options once I know where you're based and what you're drawn to.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes, please. Bring somebody who can hold the lead for the frames they're not in.
Do you shoot weddings?
Not yet — I'm taking on weddings from 2027 and booking a small number. If you're planning one, get in touch anyway and we'll talk.
Can we do this for an anniversary instead?
Absolutely, and I wish more people did. Ten years in with two kids in the frame is a better photograph than most engagement shoots.

Let's photograph the two of you.
