Mini sessions

Thirty minutes. One location. Fifteen to twenty hand-edited photographs. $175.

Sometimes you don't need a whole evening. You need half an hour in good light, a few photographs of the people you love as they are right now, and to be home before bedtime.

That's what a mini session is for.

Not a production line

A lot of mini sessions are run back to back, ten or fifteen minutes each, with the next family waiting by the car. They can be good value. They can also feel rushed, especially with a toddler who needs five minutes just to decide you're not a threat.

My minis are booked one at a time, on the day and at the place that suits you. Thirty minutes is twice what most local minis give you, and you get more photos too. For a small family, it's usually plenty.

Who it's for

  • Babies and toddlers. Thirty minutes is about the length of a small child's good mood. We use every minute of it.
  • One parent and a child. A short motherhood session, or a dad-and-son walk.
  • Couples who'd like a handful of beautiful photographs together without making an evening of it.
  • Maternity, when standing for an hour sounds like a lot.
  • Families who've never done this before and want to try it without committing to a full session.

If you have a big family, a lot of outfits in mind, or want more than one location, The Hour or The Long Session will suit you better. I wrote about how to choose between a mini and a full session.

Seasonal mini days

A few times a year I run mini days around a season or a special setting. They're announced to my email list first, and they usually fill within a few days.

Coming in spring: Mother's Day motherhood minis. Thirty minutes for you and your little one, in the first good light of May. Dates go to the list in March.

A few emails a year, only when there's something to book. Easy to leave.

How it works

1 · Say hello. Send me a message through the contact form or on Instagram with who's coming and roughly when you'd like to go.

2 · We pick a spot and an evening. I'll suggest a location near you. I watch the forecast and we settle on the evening with the best light.

3 · Thirty minutes outside. I'll guide you into the light and give you things to do, then mostly stay out of the way.

4 · Your gallery. About two weeks later, a private gallery of finished photographs.

Questions

Is 30 minutes enough? For one location and a small family, yes. Small children are usually done after half an hour anyway.

Can I book a mini any time of year? Yes. Minis are available all year, not just on event days.

Where do mini sessions happen? Anywhere within about an hour of Kitchener-Waterloo. Parks in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge are the usual choice, or your home if it has good light.

What if it rains? We move it for free, as many times as the weather needs.

Can I give a mini session as a gift? Yes. Gift certificates don't expire. Just send me a note.
